Unlike other museums created from royal and aristocratic collections, this holding was assembled with local artworks and has been increased thanks to gifts and acquisitions from private collections. As a result it is the reflection of the taste of a part of our civil society for the art of the Renaissance and the Baroque. The collection houses art produced in Catalonia and the rest of Spain, Italy and Flanders, which permits us to have an overview of the development of European art during the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth century.
