The Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection

This section brings together a selection of paintings from the collection of Catalan art belonging to Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, which consists of more than 350 works making up a collection of great richness. This selection spans the period from the mid-19th century to the second half of the 20th century, one of the most brilliant moments in Catalan art. From the 19th century stands out the presence of Fortuny, the most important artist in Spanish 19th-century painting after Goya. As regards Modernisme, there are remarkable artists such as Ramon Casas, Hermen Anglada Camarasa and Joaquim Mir. Equally noteworthy is the presence of Noucentisme, with paintings by its leading artists, amongst them Joaquim Torres-García and Joaquim Sunyer. A brilliant colophon to this suggestive tour of the history of modern Catalan painting lies in the presence of the indisputable Antoni Tàpies.
